A Brief History
Founded in 1987, Disability Specialists (DSI) was a pioneer in the area of case design, creating unique combinations of Group LTD and Individual Employer Paid Disability Insurance for highly- compensated employees and professional groups. As Employer Paid Individual Disability Programs lost popularity and Voluntary Individual Disability Programs gained popularity, the need for creative case design was replaced by the need for effective voluntary enrollment strategies. DSI recognized an industry-wide void of companies skilled at effectively enrolling these complex programs.
To answer that need, DSI began developing and refining their own comprehensive voluntary enrollment process. DSI developed the necessary processes and best practices to ensure their professional staff utilized an unassuming approach, trust-building language and respectful methodologies in gathering sensitive personal and financial information, resulting in effective, problem-free enrollment experiences. By 2001, DSI had become an acknowledged leader in enrolling Voluntary, Executive/Professional Disability Programs for large employers, associations and broker-dealers.
In early 2016, DSI acquired Advisor Group Benefits, a highly-specialized benefit consulting firm serving independent advisors, broker-dealers and associations. Together they set the new standard for Advisor Benefit Programs by aligning plan designs, service, and technology with the distinct needs of financial advisors, while delivering unprecedented value to their broker-dealers.
Today, DSI maintains their position as a leader in the Group and Individual Disability Insurance Industry and as one of the foremost experts on enrolling Voluntary Group and Individual Disability Programs.
